Total cargo throughput for 2007 at Tianjin's port reached 200 million metric tons on August 18, breaking the threshold 50 days earlier than last year, according to Economic Observer reports (in Chinese). The city's port has improved its efficiency by using non-port cities such as Zhengzhou and Shijiazhuang as one-stop customs service centers this year. The port's close connection with inland cities is seen to have simplified customs clearance procedures, reduced transportation costs and improved the quality of service.
