137 ICBC employees punished for banquets, travel, "optional" gatherings

137 employees at the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China have been reprimanded for violating party restrictions on lavish banquets, excessive travel and compulsory gift-giving, The Financial Times reported, citing state media. The ongoing crackdown by the party’s Central Commission on Discipline Inspection has particularly targeted the practice among senior officials and state-owned enterprise executives of inviting subordinates to essentially mandatory weddings, funerals and other functions where they are expected to give cash or other gifts. Previous probes have targeted state-owned groups including China Mobile, China National Petroleum Corp, Baosteel and State Grid, though the focus of the campaign switched its focus to the financial sector this year.
