14 more men to stand trial for July Xinjiang riots

The trial of 14 people charged with murder, robbery, arson and vandalism in connection with riots in Xinjiang in July began yesterday, AFP reported. The 14 were the last in a group of 21 men who were charged with crimes relating to the unrest. The defendants’ ethnicities were unknown. State media had previously reported that police had detained at least 718 people in connection with the unrest. Earlier in the week, six men were sentenced to death and a seventh was sentenced to life in prison; all were Uighurs.
