China's top quality-control watchdog announced that 14.3% of the local-made truck tire tubes failed safety tests in its latest quality check-up, Xinhua reported (in Chinese). The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said it checked 51 truck tires and tire tubes produced by 30 companies in nine provincial-level regions including Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. The tensile strength of some tubes did not meet standards and were prone to bursting on the road, said the administration. The regulator added that all of the tubes were sold domestically and were not exported abroad. GAQSIQ has ordered local branches to urge the firms to finish the improvement of product quality during a given period of time.
