Accor focuses on tourist sites in China hotel expansion

Accor (AC.EPA) intends to build 30 of its 100 planned Chinese hotels in tourist destinations rather than cities, Bloomberg reported, citing Michael Issenberg, chairman of Accor Asia-Pacific region. Europe’s largest hotel operator aims to capitalize on domestic tourist trips that are forecast to grow by 11% a year between 2013 and 2018, according to data from Euromonitor International. Expansion by domestic and international companies has resulted in an oversupply in the densely populated east of the country, slowing operators’ ability to increase room rates.
