Agricultural Bank of China president detained on corruption charges

Zhang Yun, the president and vice-chairman of the Agricultural Bank of China, has been removed from his post on suspicion of corruption amid a ratcheting up of inspections of Chinese financial authorities by the party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, South China Morning Post reported, citing unnamed sources and local media. Zhang, 56, had been with Agricultural Bank since 1985. He was appointed deputy governor in 2001, and formally made a governor in 2009. He had served as bank president since 2009. Teams sent by the commission held meetings at the People’s Bank of China, the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange over the weekend, according to its website.
