Chinese airlines have issued a notice that they are immediately increasing passenger fuel surcharges on domestic flights by up to 100% depending on route distance.
This comes after the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planner, increased the price of aviation fuel.
Air China, China Eastern and other major domestic airlines raised the fuel surcharge on routes of more than 800 kilometers to RMB70 (US$10.46) from RMB40, while flights under 800 kilometers saw the fuel surcharge doubled to RMB40.
CRIEnglish.com reported Li Jinmao, vice chairman of the Guangdong Tourist Association, as saying a general increase in the price of airline fuel was bound to be passed on to consumers. In response, travel agencies have pushed up their tour prices for outbound and domestic travel packages.
