The Financial Times reports AMC Entertainment, the cinema chain owned by China’s wealthiest man, is poised to receive US regulators’ blessing for its $1.2bn acquisition of rival Carmike Cinemas. The US Department of Justice said on Tuesday that it had filed a proposed settlement with AMC – backed by Wang Jianlin’s Dalian Wanda – that would see it divest theaters in 15 local markets where it had competed head-to-head with Carmike, including cities in Florida, Illinois and New Jersey, among others. Other concessions from AMC include giving up most of its interest in, and all of its governing rights for, cinema advertising company National CineMedia, and transfer 24 theatres to the network of NCM rival Screenworks, the Justice Department said. The settlement requires court approval.
