Appliances to get energy rating

Refrigerators and air conditioners, among the biggest-selling "white goods" in China at the moment, are to be labeled with energy efficiency ratings from next March. An official from the National Reform and Development Commission said the move was designed to raise consumer awareness of energy efficiency, guide buying decisions, and help tackle chronic power shortages. Appliances will be rated in a number of categories on a one to five basis, with one being the most efficient.
