China’s death toll from a new strain of bird flu rose to 10 on Thursday as a 74-year-old man died in Shanghai, with the number of infections now standing at 38, Bloomberg reported. Police also detained eight web users in the provinces of Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Gansu and Liaoning for “spreading rumors” online about the H7N9 virus, Xinhua reported. Local authorities said the people would be held for up to 10 days. State media also reported on Thursday that the government has enough flu medication to fight the outbreak and is preparing a vaccine that will be ready in seven months.
