Baoshan raises cold-rolled steel prices

Baoshan Iron & Steel (600019.SH) will increase cold-rolled steel product prices in May to pass the higher costs of iron ore and coking coal on to customers, Bloomberg reported. The company plans to raise prices by RMB200 (US$29) per metric ton. Hot-rolled prices will remain unchanged. Cold-rolled steel is used to make automobiles and appliances, and Baoshan Steel said that demand from car and appliance makers has been strong enough to sustain a price increase. An analyst from Mysteel Research Group in Beijing said that Hebei Iron & Steel may follow suit. Angang Steel has already raised hot-rolled prices by RMB300 (US$43) per ton.
