Beijing has the highest rate of Internet use in China according to a report issued by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). The report said that 28% of Beijing residents went online in 2003. The nationwide average for Internet use in 2003 was 6.2%, with a total of 80 million Chinese going online. Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong province had the next highest Internet usage rates at 26.6%, 14.4% and 12.1%, respectively.
