The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television is expected to further ratchet up media controls, closing a loophole allowing Chinese video-streaming sites to stream extra foreign content beyond a 30% quota by importing physical media they are then also allowed to post online, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources. In a new policy sources said was planned to be announced next month and which would take effect in January, the media regulator will cut the number of import licenses for physical media like DVDs from more than 1,000 titles annually and require importers to state whether the discs will also be posted online.
