Beijing officials announced plans to tighten supervision of lawyers and crack down on corruption in the growing law industry. The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice, a body in charge of regulating Beijing's 7,000 registered lawyers, released a report stating that 50% of the complaints it received said clients believed lawyers had failed to fulfill their duties. Officials from the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China said they planned to increase transparency of the fee system for lawyers by requiring all law offices in Beijing to publicly disclose payment standards. Officials at the committee said they also planned to establish a system to punish unscrupulous and unregistered attorneys.
