Global miner BHP Billiton Ltd (BHP.NYSE, BLT.LON) is under investigation for possible corrupt practices in relation to its sponsorship of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Reuters reported, citing company confirmation. An Australian newspaper reported that the US Department of Justice and the Australian Federal Police were both investigating allegations that the miner gave gifts and other inducements to Chinese and other foreign officials. BHP said it believed it had complied with all applicable laws. “BHP Billiton is fully committed to operating with integrity and the Group’s policies specifically prohibit engaging in bribery in all its forms,” the company said in an emailed statement.
