Chinese state media confirmed an outbreak of bird flu that has infected 1,042 geese and killed 460 at a Tacheng farm in Xinjiang region. With more than 13,450 fowls already slaughtered and the affected areas disinfected, Beijing said the situation is under control. In May, more than 1,000 birds died of the virus in neighboring Qinghai province. A Chinese veterinary official said the disease was spreading along a migratory bird route that stretches from South Asia to Central Asia through the Tibet and Qinghai regions.
