Bribery probe nabs top energy officials

Two top officials at China’s National Energy Administration are being investigated for taking bribes, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a brief statement posted on the website of the country’s top prosecuting agency on Wednesday. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate gave no details about either case, involving Hao Weiping, director of the administration’s nuclear power department and Wei Pengyuan, deputy director of the coal department. According to a report by Caixin Magazine last week, Wei had more than US$16 million (RMB100 million) in cash at his Beijing home when he was taken away by investigators.
