Burberry appeals against SAIC trademark decision

Burberry (BRBY.LON) is appealing against a decision made by China’s State Administration for Industry & Commerce (SAIC) this month that cancelled the the luxury retailer’s trademark for beige-black-and-red patterns on leather goods, The Wall Street Journal reported. SAIC said it received an application challenging Burberry’s trademark to the pattern in February 2012 and that it made its decision on 13 November. Last year, Apple (AAPL.NASDAQ) paid US$60 million for rights to the iPad name in China after a series of lawsuits and countersuits with a Chinese company that registered the trademark before Apple.
