US President George W. Bush said he still plans to attend the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Beijing, but urged Chinese leaders to open a dialogue with the Dalai Lama, Reuters reported. Bush’s comments came as the US House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution asking China to end its crackdown on Tibetan protests and open talks with the Dalai Lama. A number of high-ranking Democrats, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, have called for a boycott of the opening ceremony, while Barack Obama has made similar calls, though in less direct language.
