Business high on Merkel agenda

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in China on a three-day visit that will touch on business interests, human rights and Beijing's role in the international arena. Although several business deals with be on the agenda, include a Siemens-led bid for a new Maglev link out of Shanghai, discussions around China's role on the international arena have received most of the attention. Merkel is expected to urge Beijing to play a larger role, particularly in relation to the nuclear crisis in Iran. The chancellor will also encourage Beijing to match its growing economic might with a larger international presence. Merkel arrived Sunday along with a 40-strong delegation that includes Germany's Economy Minister Michael Glos and Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee.
