The US
officially opened a Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) office in Beijing. The
CDC office will work closely with Chinese authorities to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS
and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
According to official
Chinese statistics 200,000 people died from AIDS last year and one million are infected
with HIV.
