[photopress:XiangBing.jpg, full, alignright]In universities around the world there is a strong and consistent demand for knowledge about China. In July 2006, over 40 University of California, Los Angeles EMBA students, led by Dean Judy Olian, came to Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) as part of their experience of China. The students responded strongly and positively to the program. So much so that it will now automatically be part of that course.
Dean Xiang Bing of CKGSB, seen above, said, ‘The feedback was so strong that UCLA decided to make the China Residency Program at CKGSB a compulsory course for all UCLA EMBAs.’
This is not the only request the CKGSB has had for such a course. The demand for China knowledge and exposure is such that CKGSB has found it hard to accommodate all the requests from overseas schools.
Dean Xiang, said, ‘We are considering making a common “China Module” available in 2007 to students from several B-schools around the globe simultaneously. This initiative is not just about economy of scale, but also, it’s a good idea for students from Columbia, for instance, to interact with their counterparts from, say, Darden, Wharton and Insead.
‘One important property at leading B-schools is the diversity in students and it’s vital for the next generation of business leaders to have global view and sensitivity to other cultures.’
