China becomes world's leading IC producer

[photopress:Integrated_circuit.jpg,full,alignright]China Securities Journal reports that China has passed Japan and the United States to become the world’s largest integrated circuit (IC) producer.

Yu Zhongyu, head of China Semiconductor Industry Association, said at the IC Market China 2007 recently held in Shanghai that the country’s semiconductor market had sales of RMB580 billion ($75 billion) in 2006 with the IC market contributing RMB486 billion ($63 billion.)

China’s IC industry gained a tenfold-growth in a decade. Yu Zhongyu said driven by booming global IC market development, the country’s IC industry maintained strong momentum in 2006, producing 35.56 billion IC chips, representing a year-on-year growth of 36%.
