China blacklists 74 websites selling fake herbal drugs

         Zopiclone on Alibaba

China’s traditional medicine watchdog has issued a blacklist of 74 Beijing-based websites suspected of selling fake herbal medicines online and warned consumers not to buy their products.

The websites sold a range of drugs claiming to treat ailments such as high blood pressure, skin diseases, diabetes and tumors.

Most of the listed websites appeared to have been shut down as this is written.

The state Chinese medicine administration said all traditional Chinese medicine sellers needed licences to sell such drugs online.

So far only 10 companies have been licensed by the administration to sell over-the-counter traditional Chinese medicines on the Internet, it added.

No mention was made of the immense offering of drugs on Alibaba which include: ‘Black Deity sex medicine. This product are good for your health, helpful for your impotence, premature ejaculation, short and thin penis, sexual weakness.’

Nor that there are 3,597 drug manufacturers, the majority from India, listed on Alibaba offering prescription drugs which are seriously dangerous.

An example. Under Central Nervous System Depressants and Stimulants Is offered Risperidone which is used for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder and is strictly controlled elsewhere and cannot be obtained without a doctor’s prescription.

There are many warnings against this drug. The fact that it can be bought in quantity through Alibaba — although the drugs are manufactured in India — could be argued to be a greater worry than any herbal medicine.
