China cracks down on prostitution in southern city

A Chinese campaign against prostitution, called the “exterminate yellow” campaign, has spread across Guangdong province after CCTV made an undercover report on Sunday on the sex trade in Dongguan city, Financial Times reported. The crackdown has already targeted more than 18,000 entertainment venues in Guangdong. More than 200 saunas and other establishments have been closed down and almost 1,000 people have been arrested. The campaign has led to an outpouring of public support for sex workers with a number of activists taking to Sino Weibo to express their concern.
