China Eastern Airlines will merge China Cargo Airlines, its wholly-owned cargo transportation subsidiary, Greatwall Airlines Cargo, its 51% controlled subsidiary, and Shanghai Airlines Cargo International, a cargo carrier previously owned by Shanghai Airlines, into a new air cargo company, China Business News reported, citing Ma Xulun, general manager of China Eastern Airlines.
The new company will be controlled by China Eastern Airlines and should be operational from 2011.
CapitalVue reports that the new cargo company will face competition from international cargo forwarding companies such as UPS and DHL.
