China’s Ministry of Defense said two of its military websites received more than 100,000 cyber hacks per month in 2012, with close to 67% of the attacks traced to the US, The Wall Street Journal reported. The statement follows American internet security firm Mandiant’s publication of a paper in February connecting the Chinese military with hacks into US firms and government organizations. Geng Yansheng, the spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense, accused the US of manufacturing a situation whereby pre-emptive cyber attacks, growing its cyberwar department and creating rules to supervise hacking are necessary.
