China generates 13 million new jobs despite slowdown, labor ministry says

China has created over 13 million new jobs in 2014 despite slowed economic growth, Reuters reported, citing the country’s labor ministry by way of state media. China added 10.82 million new jobs in the first three quarters of the year, earlier government data showed, meeting the government’s target. Any marked weakening in jobs would raise concerns for the government as it ratchets up efforts to support the economy. China is aiming to keep its registered urban unemployment rate below 4.6% this year, but many economists believe the real number may be higher given difficulties in tracking the country’s many migrant workers.
