China, Italy sign piracy MOU

Italian and Chinese representatives signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on protecting intellectual property and tackling the manufacture of pirated goods. The agreement was signed by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and representatives from the Italian Trade Commission accompanying Italian President Carlo Ciampi on his state visit to China. Italy is a major exporter of luxury brand goods, which are often copied by Chinese manufacturers who, besides selling in China, are expanding sales of fakes overseas
