Kazakhstan and China have agreed to jointly build oil and gas pipelines from oil fields near the Caspian Sea to China, the Financial Times reported. The project will link a China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) pipeline with a pipeline in western Kazakhstan to transport oil and gas across Kazakhstan from the Caspian into Xinjiang. CNPC has already invested US$6.5 billion in oil projects and plans to further expand in Kazakhstan. The pipeline is designed to carry up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
