China totally dominated the Asian Games. Next stop: the 2012 London Olympics. China won the Asiad for the eighth straight time – garnering 199 gold and an impressive 416 total medals – both Asian Games records.
China did amazingly well at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games where it topped the United States and Russia in the gold medal stakes. This is a young team with a lot of potential. Of the 199 gold medals won in Guangzhou, 128 of them were won by Chinese youths making their first-ever appearances at the Asian Games. Following their strong performance in Guangzhou, Chinese athletes will also likely compete in London for medals in archery, shooting, rowing and a host of lesser sports Times of India reports that where medals are not likely to come are in football, volleyball and basketball where the Chinese teams are still admittedly underperforming.
