China made its biggest purchase of US sorghum since April last week, according to the US Department of Agriculture, as Washington and Beijing revive discussions to find a solution to the trade war, reported Reuters.
China bought 51,072 metric tons of the grain even though the government imposed a 25% tariff on American shipments in July 2018 as part of the trade dispute. The purchases will likely be used to feed livestock and to make Chinese liquor called baijiu.
The US and China agreed last month to restart trade talks that stalled in May. US President Donald Trump said at the time that he would not to impose new tariffs and China agreed to make more agricultural purchases from the US. But Trump said on July 11 that China was not living up to its promises of buying more US farm goods.
