China may join a regional summit to formally declare the end of the Korean War, a South Korean official said Sunday, AP reported. Uncertainty about China's involvement in the proposed talks was triggered last week when the leaders of the two Koreas agreed at a Pyongyang summit that they would "cooperate to push" for an end to the Korean War with a meeting of China, the US, and North Korea – signatories to the cease-fire on the Korean peninsula in 1953. It is uncertain when the regional summit will occur, but South Korea dismisses claims China will not be involved in the process. There has never been a formal treaty officially ending the war but South Korea's foreign minister said the heads of the related countries could announce talks to end the Korean War if there is progress in negotiations to end the North's nuclear program, which North Korea has pledged to disable by the end of this year under a deal reached last week.
