China, Microsoft seek accord on antitrust investigation

China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce pledged to carry out a fair investigation into Microsoft on Thursday, and was granted the company’s cooperation in return, The Wall Street Journal reported. Following the surprise raids and seizure of material recently used in the targeting of foreign firms in antitrust investigations, and the U.S. and European backlash associated with it, the outcome of this meeting appears to signal a change of tone regarding these cases. Microsoft is being investigated due to other businesses’ complaints about the Windows operating system and its Office productivity software, though few details have been released.
