Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile, the largest mobile telecom carrier on the mainland, has invited Taiwan-based enterprises in the WiMAX supply chain to attend conferences and forums scheduled for October in China, aiming at cooperation for developing 4G technologies.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will decide on 4G standards in 2011, and for this China Mobile is developing TD-LTE (time division-Long Term Evolution). The mainland wants to work with Taiwan-based WiMAX hardware makers because of their technological capabilities and the similarity of WiMAX to TD-LTE.
Digitimes reports that the invited Taiwan-based companies include mobile telecom carriers, IC design houses and makers of networking/communication equipment and terminal devices.
