State-owned Air China (AIRC.LON, 601111.SHA, 0753.HKG) could lose its monopoly on several prime international air routes as the country plans to deregulate the industry within a year, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a top Chinese airline executive. International expansion for many Chinese airlines has been restricted to flights to smaller destinations by a Chinese government policy that allows only one Chinese carrier on each route. “There’s been serious discussions to lift the ban” between the country’s airlines and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Hainan Airlines (900945.SHA) Vice President Wei Hou said after the company this week launched flights from its Beijing hub to Chicago.
