China producer price deflation eases up

Producer price deflation eased in China last month, reported the Financial Times on a data release by the Chinese government. Chinese officials have been scrambling to paint a more optimistic picture of the economy. While recent data suggest there is some stabilisation, international jitters remain over the slowdown and the extent of the government’s commitment towards rebalancing towards consumption. A fuller picture is set to emerge this week, with the release of trade data on Wednesday, followed by first-quarter economic growth numbers on Friday. China’s economy last year grew at its slowest annual rate in a quarter of a century.
