China raises gasoline, diesel prices

Gasoline and diesel prices have gone up about RMB310 ($US46) and RMN300 a tonne.

This is the second increase in fuel prices in two months after the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) raised the price of gasoline by RMB230 and diesel by RMB 220 in October.

Crude oil prices have climbed to a record high since October 2008. In the past two months, international oil prices have increased more than 8%.

The Chinese government adopted an oil pricing mechanism at the start of 2009 that allows the NDRC to adjust retail fuel prices when the international crude oil price changes by more than 4% over 22 straight working days.

English.News.cn reports market observers said the fuel price hike would have limited effect on the country’s consumer price levels.
