China is releasing oil from state reserves to areas affected by the May 12 earthquake in order to guarantee energy security, state media reported. The National Development and Reform Commission said the State Reserve Bureau had sent 6,313 tons of oil and oil products to Sichuan and surrounding areas by Sunday. The government also diverted fuel tankers to the region to maintain air transport links. Meanwhile, PetroChina resumed fuel supplies to several fuel stations near the epicenter, while Sinopec Corp ramped up production of diesel and jet fuel for quake rescue efforts.
