China takes leading role in WTO talks

The World Trade Organisation talks on agriculture ended in failure last month when a coalition of 21 developing nations led by China, Brazil and India walked out after the Western economic powers refused to cut economic subsidies.

Chinese commentators credited the new power of the G21 to the economic clout of China and its determination for the first time to play a leading role at the WTO as a leader of the developing nations.
