[photopress:mba_islamabad_gurduara_sikh_temple.jpg,full,alignright]China’s universities are now, in a sense, reversing the process where overseas universities come and establish a link with an university in China. A two-member HEC delegation recently visited China on the invitation of the Chinese Consortium of Universities for the establishment of the Pakistan-China University (PCU) in Islamabad.
PCU is being established in partnership with leading engineering universities of China.
The university will have a student body of 5,600 and will annually produce 200 PhDs, 700 masters and 900 graduates. A two-year program in selected disciplines will begin later this year at a temporary campus in Islamabad.
The delegation also met with the Chinese Education Ministry and discussions revolved around the details of two important government level agreements.
They said these would be finalised by the end of February and later formally signed in Beijing.
Sources said the two sides finalised the list of universities in the consortium, the masters’ programmes for 2008, the admissions criteria, the curriculum details and textbooks. And arrangements for the selection of faculty and their transfer to Pakistan were also made.
Representatives of the Chinese Consortium Universities will visit Pakistan in March.
