During recent meetings of the Politburo, China’s top decision makers’ focus shifted away from stimulus and back towards structural reform after positive economic performance in the first three months of the year, according to meeting reports, said Caixin.
Though the domestic economy was still “under downward pressure,” activity in the first quarter of the year was “better than expected,” said a meeting of the 25-member Politburo chaired by President Xi Jinping, according to Xinhua.
The focus will shift to “reform and opening up” as well as “restructure”, according to the reports from the Politburo meeting.
In another departure from earlier Politburo meetings, the statement on Friday did not mention “stabilizing employment, finance, trade, foreign investment, investment and expectations”, which suggested that China’s emergency economic management focus on growth is largely over, said the South China Morning Post.
