The US pressed China Sunday to enforce a UN resolution against North Korea approved unanimously on Saturday in response to its claimed nuclear test on October 9, AP reported. The US-sponsored resolution demands North Korea eliminate nuclear weapons but rules out military action, as Russia and China demanded. Washington's UN ambassador, John Bolton, said the test was a public humiliation for China, Pyongyang's chief ally and supplier of food and energy aid. China's UN ambassador, Wang Guangya, said his country "strongly urges the countries concerned to adopt a prudent and responsible attitude in this regard and refrain from taking any provocative steps that may intensify the tensions". China is refusing to interdict North Korean cargo to check for weapons of mass destruction or related supplies as allowed under the resolution. North Korea's UN ambassador accused council members of a "gangster-like" action that neglects the nuclear threat posed by the US.
