China, US reach agreement on trade issues

China and the US reached a consensus in areas ranging from agriculture to technology, with Vice Premier Wang Qishan saying the "candid exchange of views" on economic cooperation had been positive, AFP reported. Following the talks in Washington, the US said China had expressed a willingness to negotiate on resuming US beef imports and agreed to do more to crack down on intellectual property theft. It pledged to remain "neutral" on technological standards for 3G telephones as well as smart grids so as to permit market access for American companies. There was also a commitment not to reverse the decision to rescind rules on "indigenous innovation," which state that high-tech goods must hold Chinese intellectual property rights. The Chinese side called on the US to relax export controls, notably those that prevent the sale of "dual-use" technology – which could be put to military use – to China.
