China first high performance supercomputer

China’s first high performance supercomputer has rolled off the assembly line in Tianjin.

With the brand new Shuguang 5000A, China is now the second country in the world, after the United States, that can boast the ability to develop, produce and operate supercomputers. And behind it, is an investment of more than RMB200 million, and the work of over 500 scientists.

The producer of Shuguang 5000A says the supercomputer greatly enhances China’s technological competitiveness. It also marks a major breakthrough in innovation in the industrial sector.

The Tianjin Municipal government provided RMB50 million for the project. It has also put up another RMB100 million for the second phase of the project, which will produce half a million high-speed computers.
