China's trade deficit with India nears US$1bn

China experienced a US$900 million trade deficit with India in 2003, according to India's foreign trade chief. Chinese imports from India grew 89% over 2002, while Chinese exports to India grew 27%, according to India's Director General of Foreign Trade, L Mansingh. Chinese imports from India in January grew by 95% year-on-year, despite appreciation of the rupee, Mansingh said, adding that Chinese exports to India during the same period grew 16% over the previous year.
