A consortium led by China Everbright Ltd. and private equity group PCP Capital Partners LLP has lined up a bid for a major stake in Liverpool Football Club. The bid, if successful, would mark one of the most high profile Chinese backed soccer investments to date, according to The Wall Street Journal. However Liverpool FC’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group, who also own the Boston Red Sox baseball team, may prove reluctant to sell a large chunk of its shares in Liverpool. Earlier this week the club’s chairman told a newspaper in Liverpool that the group would only consider offers for a small investment in the storied soccer club.
