A Chinese graduate who provoked a US airport lock-down when he snuck through a security barrier to see his girlfriend has apologized for the trouble he caused, AP reported. Jiang Haisong, a 28-year-old science student at Rutgers University, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge after he entered a restricted area at Newark Airport to say goodbye to his lover. "I want to deeply apologize to those (affected) for my breach," Jiang said on the steps of the court. "I just wanted to spend more time with my girlfriend. I made a big mistake, and I also learned a big lesson." Jiang was ordered to pay US$500 and complete 100 hours of community service. Jiang’s security breach caused Newark airport to close for six hours and affected thousands of passengers. Jiang’s lawyer described his client as a painfully shy, lovesick man who made a mistake. Jiang and his girlfriend were "still together and still very much in love," he said.
