CNNC plans 8 new reactors

The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) applied to construct eight new 1,000 megawatt nuclear power generation facilities. CNNC officials said that the eight reactors, four of which would use domestic technology, would have a total cost of US$9.7 billion. CNNC plans to expand existing power plants and build new ones in Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces. With the country facing a power shortage, China plans to increase nuclear power generation by four times to a total of 36,000 megawatts by 2020.
