Coca Cola settled a trade dispute in a Shanghai court after being sued for alleged infringement on the trademark rights of a local company. Details of the settlement were not made public.
Shanghai Yaqing Industry & Trade brought the case against Coca Cola and its local dealer, Shanghai Shenmei Drinks & Food, alleging that Coke's Qoo fruit juice Chinese label resembles its registered trademark.
Yaqing, the local partner of US-based Monarch Beverage International Group, asked Coca Cola to stop using the Chinese "Ku Er" trademark, destroy the trademark logo and make a public apology despite the fact that Yaqing has not yet produced any products under its registered "Ku Hai" trademark.
